Adventures in AI - Part Two

In Part One I asked AI (ChatGPT) to create images from one of my Short Horror Tales - Ignition Source. The results was some confusion, some disbelief and a lot of fun.

Here, I'm having AI do the same for scenes and themes from Mechincarnation - a Short Horror featuring a murderous Robot battling police at a mansion.

I began by quoting a description of the robot, in a scene in which it drops down onto a police car outside the mansion...

Robot Vs Police Car

I have to admit, I was impressed. The robot doesn't look like a terminator, but is instead fairly close to my description - very big, powerful and menacing. The damage to the car is really nice - particularly the crumpling metal and shattering glass. If I had to be critical, I would say the cops look quite British... but I'll take the blame for that as I only specified 'police'.

Image 2 is set inside the mansion and I specified the cops as wearing body armour, plus gunfire raging and bullets bouncing off the robot...

Robot Vs Bullets

At first glance, this is a great picture: a battle raging between the cops and the giant robot. They say the devil is in the details, though, and some of the details make you frown. The cops firing on the stairs: is he somehow kneeling down on a single stair or have his legs vanished? And is he aiming at the robot or at another target? Things don't seem completely right, and I don't think a good human artist would have made this kind of error.

On to Image 3. The robot crashes through a wall and the police officers in the room react...

Robot Vs Wall

Once again, the first impression is a terrific scene. Three cops are falling away from the exploding wall, and the furthest one is firing... But... What is the shooting officer firing at? Let's say surprise has thrown off his aim and give the AI a pass on that one. What I do find scary is the raised left hand of the bottom-middle cop. Zoom in. It's not a human hand - it's just - ugh! - too wrong! And, to the left of the robot's hip: is that a strange part of the robot or some very chrome-like debris? However, the destroyed wall, the flying rubble... just so much of the scene is both highly detailed and exciting.

Finally, number four. The robot has leapt through an upper floor window of the mansion and drops towards police outside...

Robot Vs Window

AI took my descriptive points - the burning cars, the injured cops being helped, cops firing at the emerging threat, the litter of debris. The scene looks chaotic... The aftermath of a lost battle, where another battle is beginning. Details such as the fountain and the background, AI brought in all by itself. The perspective is excellent. I'd say this is AI's best effort yet. But can you see the screaming error, worse than any before..?

Positioned roughly centre-near-bottom is a cop firing. He isn't aiming at the robot, he's targeting fellow officers! AI, what were you thinking!

So, another look at what AI is capable of from a point of view of creativity. Any of these images could have been refined again and again to get a 'perfect' picture for use. The results certainly were interesting, and I hope you thought so too.

Just for comparison, here's the cover for Mechincarnation. If you want to know why the robot was created and for who, and how a war between it and the police started... you can check out the novella.

Mechincarnation Book Cover

For my 3rd Adventure into AI, I decided to unleash AI onto two favourite recurring characters from the Short Horror Tales. Assassin-turned-monster-killer Mr Slowly, and his partner Pearl. I got a little carried away here and this session might need two parts...
